I doubt you’ll ever hear anyone running after their loved one saying “Honey, you forgot your Banana Bunker! Even in post-Black Party Chelsea that’d be odd. So what’s it for? Supposedly to protect your banana. This piece, designed by Peter Stremple and available at the MOMA store, will probably be used more for kicks at the office rather than guarding your ‘nanner from the other sh*& in your Bottega Vague Wave. BUT because we need more plastic on Earth, we fully welcome this thing for it’s multi-use potential (some of which should be mentioned for the sake of honesty). One question though, if this is about protecting fruit, why didn’t they make one for an apple first? –>
Fashion
As New York Fashion Week draws to a close, it looks like the biggest statements were made above the shoulders. Hair and makeup took center runway this year with a look that was ballet girl goes goth. Jason Wu (with MAC) and Marc Jacobs (with NARS) were just two designers that sent their girls down the catwalk with hair pulled back to perfection and paired with makeup artistry that made for striking displays of severe theater. Models were tight-lipped with the “Statement Lip” using bold colors and sharp borders, skipping the usual sheer spring glosses and eyes were kept light and twinkly. No doubt you’ll be seeing this theatrical release on the streets near you. Question is, will you join the show?

When manicure maven Jin Soon Choi married up with MAC to make lacquer together we couldn’t wait for the results! The new lacquers are available in three finishes, cream, shear and frosted and there’s lots of color choices to match the mood you’re in. They also contain conditioners that keep claws looking sharp and with color names like Vintage Vamp and Beyond Jealous, you might actually be needing those claws. The line launched this week and MAC also promises that if you lacquer up with Soon, you’ll have no-streak, no chip finishes. No doubt! –>
Designer
As fall season arrives so has Six Scents: Series Two. Much like Series 1, curator Joseph Quartana pairs up six designers with six perfumers to create six fragrances with a conscience. So many sixes! A portion of the net proceeds are channeled to support Pro-Natura’s environmental sustainability programs. Each designer partnered up with a different nose from Givaudan and used the guidelines of the art/nature relationship blended with, what else… they’re own style. Phillip Lim, Henry Holland, Damir Doma, Henrik Vibskov, Richard Nicoll and Toga are this year’s designers who will be represented in October’s launch. Pick up the 6 at Seven New York.

When will “Twilight” fall on the vamp craze haunting the cosmetic industry? With the rise of the dead on the flat screen came a trend in makeup that’s hemorrhaging good taste. DuWop’s Twilight Venom is case in point, geared towards puckering up the pusses of post-pubescent fans of bad television and hinting that it’s o.k. for them to bite each other. “Prime Venom” supposedly takes the fine lines out of lips leaving them blood-red after numerous applications. In other words, lip gloss. Anyway, the real application should be return it to the box (if it even has one) and bury it forever.

Temptu
No more clammy foundation! Forget the usual face cake and grab a Temptu! The Temptu Airbrush Makeup System has been the tool of the trade for professional makeup artists for years, used to create flawless facades and now its “fool-proof” enough to use at home. With a built-in air compressor, it’s lightweight, easy to use, and it can double as mic for those American Idol moments in front of the mirror. What’s most ingenious is that after the $225 investment you’ll be returning to Sephora for your replacement AIRpods every 2-4 month for life. Does that still…Tempt-U?

The Prosthetics Project, a fall 2009 assignment for 21 students at the School of Visual Arts, is an exploration of functional design mixed with imagination for upper limb prosthetics. One standout by Dohun Park called “The Hands of Wisdom”, is a meditation kit containing 4 interchangeable hand gestures for prayer poses in Yoga, tying the ancient practice of mental therapy with modern functionality. The packaging is a carrying case with soothing art and elegant typeface that evoke the spirit of relaxation, mediation and heaven. Lets give a hand to the SVA for this project. –>
Mani-Moon
No this isn’t about those glittery add-ons you see clicking on the cash register at Dean and Deluca whilst you crunch on your croissant. This moon manicure has history. 40‘s Silver Screen starlets like Garbow, Harlow and Crawford were all seen wearing them, whether signing autographs or whipping with wire hangars. Now, once again the nail moon is eclipsing the fashion world like the Big Bang theory and is showing up on runways and editorial alike. The look is achieved through carefully painting an arch from cuticle to cuticle with variations also arching the at the tip. While the moon is usually clear, it can also carry contrasting, multiple shades to match colors around the eyes for a gorgeous, modern version of a classic look. This trend is, dare I say it…through the moon. –>
Future
Fix yourself some Fanta before you enter the 405 by sticking your sippy cup in the dispenser of the nearest Freestyle. Not since New Coke has the legendary bottling company offered its customers something mind-boggling but this one might actually work. The vending machine is touch screen easy with the opportunity to choose from over 100 different Coca Cola branded options, including water and juice and uses highly concentrated syrup cartridges that deliver quality flavor in a compact space. Only an insulin cartridge would make this machine perfect. And in true Big Brother style, Coke can track sales data electronically and cut your favorite flavor off at the flick of a switch. The machine is currently being tested in California, Georgia, and Utah. What’s that about?
