Miss Gaga (actually its Ms. Germanotta) knows how to make a statement and the latest cover of V Magazine is victory for the world of publication…if they could all just follow the trend. Struggling mainstream mags are fighting each other for ad dollars and consumer attention and while recycled photos dominate the interior the covers are speaking volumes. Famed celeb photographer Mario Testino shot this issue with the lady all dolled up in Georgio Armani makeup and Oribe hair. The cover is all tricked out with removable sunglasses on Lady Gaga’s leather face (not Poker Face) temping you to lift it squinting with one eye closed at what might lay beneath. V’s hoping you pick it up and pay for it but you may end up running from fright. Look for it on a newsstand near you…you won’t miss it.

As New York Fashion Week draws to a close, it looks like the biggest statements were made above the shoulders. Hair and makeup took center runway this year with a look that was ballet girl goes goth. Jason Wu (with MAC) and Marc Jacobs (with NARS) were just two designers that sent their girls down the catwalk with hair pulled back to perfection and paired with makeup artistry that made for striking displays of severe theater. Models were tight-lipped with the “Statement Lip” using bold colors and sharp borders, skipping the usual sheer spring glosses and eyes were kept light and twinkly. No doubt you’ll be seeing this theatrical release on the streets near you. Question is, will you join the show?

Package design is by Commes des Garcon with labeling that is signature DSM. And if you can’t get the jet this weekend, feel free to pick it up for 50 pounds at the DSM e-shop.

Because everything’s bigger in Texas, it’s no surprise that Farmhouse Fresh’s bath salts would come in big ‘ole jars and big ‘ole sweet flavors. “Living life under a canopy of magic trees” is how the team makes all of its natural and organic creations and they craft the perfect gifts for even the pickiest of pickies. A variety of creams and scrubs make up the line and are all packaged in what looks like recycled Smuckers jars, Skippy containers, and milk pitchers. The only problem is, with ingredients like honey, strawberry and sugared maple, you’ll be left to wonder should I be wearing this…or eating it?

Lineaus athletic bars, bags, and balls bring fashion to the fitness room with a line of equipment that is old school gorgeous. Made from chromed leather (not that veggie crap), hand-sewn and made to order, the material is soft yet durable and like fine wine, gets better with time. But like all good things, fashion for the field doesn’t come cheap, (like $4,800 for the bag) but it is a feast for the eyes and is sewn by Lineaus himself. Who wouldn’t want to get their mitts on these? Touchdown Cool Hunting!

With winter right around the corner, it’s all about the ball for the bouche. Eos’s “Evolution of Smooth” protects lips with shea butter, vitamin E and a blend of other yummy little oils. The balm is 100% natural, paraben free and it’s all stuffed inside a slick, succulent little sphere. Honeysuckle, Honeydew, Summer Fruit, and Sweet Mint are the 3 flavors that keep the summer season and your lips alive even in the dead of winter. The sphere itself is a brilliant little thing, molded in soothing pastel colors, subtly stamped logo and toss-able even in the smallest of satchels. Best of all, the directions: “Pucker up, Smooth On, Smile”.

When manicure maven Jin Soon Choi married up with MAC to make lacquer together we couldn’t wait for the results! The new lacquers are available in three finishes, cream, shear and frosted and there’s lots of color choices to match the mood you’re in. They also contain conditioners that keep claws looking sharp and with color names like Vintage Vamp and Beyond Jealous, you might actually be needing those claws. The line launched this week and MAC also promises that if you lacquer up with Soon, you’ll have no-streak, no chip finishes. No doubt!

As fall season arrives so has Six Scents: Series Two. Much like Series 1, curator Joseph Quartana pairs up six designers with six perfumers to create six fragrances with a conscience. So many sixes! A portion of the net proceeds are channeled to support Pro-Natura’s environmental sustainability programs. Each designer partnered up with a different nose from Givaudan and used the guidelines of the art/nature relationship blended with, what else… they’re own style. Phillip Lim, Henry Holland, Damir Doma, Henrik Vibskov, Richard Nicoll and Toga are this year’s designers who will be represented in October’s launch. Pick up the 6 at Seven New York.
